    Subject: Bending Extruded Angle?
    From: John Swartout <jgswartout@gmail.com>
Does anyone know what kind of shop would have a tool that would put a nice smooth 4-foot radius bend 14" long into a piece of extruded angle 6061-T6, 1.25" x 0.75" x 0.125t, with the bend stretching the outer edge of the 0.75 flange? This is aluminum angle with the radiused inner corner. I can probably do it with a grooved hardwood form and a rubber mallet, but I'd gladly pay somebody to do it for me that could assure perfect results the first time. John

I bought one of those, Joe, for miscellaneous small bending jobs on my 601XL. I was going to make a 5' David Clay(?) brake, and even bought the angle. When I saw the HF tool for $140, I decided that I'd spend the money and save the time. It works just fine--does what I've wanted. I've actually used it more for small jobs around the house than for the airplane. Made a nice aluminum sheath to protect the sheet rock by the garage door from our dog's claws. I find that airplane building skills are really helpful around the house and car.
