I was just wondering if anyone has tried to put a jack screw like the one s found on the pa 18 , Navion and others, it sounds like a slick way to tri m the tail, I know I shall be needing the weight back there anyway Chris -------Original Message------- From: JG Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: Re: C of G and a heavy nose... The slats don't bring the center of lift forward. A bit surprising I kno w, but tested over and over again, that removing the slats caused no change in trim. See the testing and results at www.stolspeed.com There's a whole new set of tests there, comparing the performance with slats/no slats. JG

Hello, I am the new owner of a GP 1915 VW with a 1.6:1 Valley Redrive. I wondered if anyone else here had this powerplant on their 701, and what their opinion of it was? Thanks, Steve Dixon

Just wondering if there are any builders in Western Canada or NW Sta tes that have had enough and would like to part with their Fuselage and may b e fuel tanks. Also a 100hp Rotax would make my day so to speak, I just don 't seem to be able to find the time anymore! Chris blackmore@platinum.ca Calgary AB Canada

Changing the incidence of the horizontal stab works for trimming at cruise speeds, but loses effectiveness at the very slow landing speeds of these aircraft. So, the nose will still come down heavily on touch down, or even before, when the weight and balance overcomes the diminishing aerodynamic forces..... Ross: Notwithstanding my opinion that the most important thing is to ensure the weight/balance is within design limits for TC 10141E compliance, and a "701" without the slats is NOT, you may get sufficient elevator authority with power off by installing the elevator VG kit from Zenair. They have some videos of a set being trialled which is quite impressive. Ralph -------- Ralph - CH701 / 2200a Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=283122#283122

Subject: Any graphic designers on the list?
    From: John Marzulli <john.marzulli@gmail.com>
So far the harderst part of this project has not involved drills, metal, wire, batterys, color of Scotch Brite, rivets or clecos or even the Matco tubeless tires. I have been working on my paint design. This has been an interesting process filled with frustration. There are two ideas that I have been iterating on. The first is the one that I want to make work, but have been having problems getting to look "right": http://marzulliphoto.net/photos/771236046_Vk8F4-L.jpg It is based on Costal Salish art. The goal was to make a highly visible aircraft that would stand out against the water, trees and mountains of the area while using traditional NW Indian colors. The concept is very appealing to me, but I am really having a hard time getting it tied together. The other design a "backup" based on D-Day invasion stripes and a shark's mouth: http://marzulliphoto.net/photos/765696683_m7jdv-M.jpg If anyone has some knowledge of graphic design or Costal Salish art, please contact me. If you have any ideas on how to make the design better, please share them. Full gallery of the previous ( failed ) design iterations: http://marzulliphoto.net/Airplanes/Paint-Scheme-Doodles/10933935_Auwde/1/771236046_Vk8F4 Many thanks in advance! John Marzulli 98% done, only 192% more to go. Moving it to the airport in March! http://701Builder.blogspot.com/ <http://701builder.blogspot.com/>

John, I like your first iteration as it's something I've not seen before. Going forward, I'd suggest the paint be one that can be easily touched up. The colors, if in a urethane hard finish, be a compatible type of paint that offers a matching color. The hardest colors to match are seldom found in small spray bottles. If not a urethane, a acrylic enamel per Bingilis book recommendations. I picked an off pale yellow which has been hard to match with a compatible touch-up and the original process was a very intensive operation I'd not like to repeat. Just a thought. Subject: Bolts for Rotax motor mount to firewall
I have the old bed-style motor mount. I'm surprised that the lower four corners (as opposed to the top center brace) fasten to the firewall with mere AN3 bolts. I thought it was a mistake in my fourth-hand kit but that is what the plans show too. What size bolts hold the newer ring-style mount to the firewall? Can anyone see any downside to stepping up to AN4? -- Craig
