Bryane, 16Ga should work but before you use that heavy of a wire, you might want to check the AC-43-13. There is a wiring chart there that showes current carrying capability over distance. I think you'll find that 18 Ga is lots to power the aeroflash strobe packs but at least if you check the chart, you will know for sure. One of the things I failed to do when adding electrical items to my plane was to make a chart of amperage draw. Now I find I can't run everything and have the generator keep up with the current draw. I love to fly at night and many towers request that you keep the landing lights on approaching and in the pattern. According to A/S my GE landing lights draw 100 amps each, way too much for the generator and battery. Will have to switch to LED lights but at a terrible price. Something to consider when building. Bob, Wichita

Wow! 100 Amps for the landing lights, they should be able to see you clear across the Atlantic on approach! Jeff Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=287520#287520

100W landing lights should be around 7-8 amps @ 14vdc. Jeff Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=287521#287521

do not archive With a "12.5 volt" system (yours may vary slightly) a 100-Watt lamp should draw about 8 amps if Ohm's Law is still in effect. The DC current for two lamps would be about 16 amperes. Two (separate) switches? Zed/701/912/90%/etc

I was also pulling too many amps with landing, strobe and nav lights all on. So at Oshkosh last year I purchased a 1-amp solid state landing light. It cost about $200 and works OK.
