Alvin, the general rule of thumb when dealing with an electrical-gremlin in an aircraft is: Alway check the ground.- I don't know why it is but th e problems almost alway seem to be in the ground side of the circuit. - The potential ground issues that I can see in this circuit are: 1.- Engine to airframe 2.- gauge to ground buss 3.- Battery ground (not likely as other issues would be apparent) - Hope this helps - Doug MacDonald CH-701 Scratch Builder Painting - Do Not Archive --- On Sat, 4/3/10, Alvin Rose <ajroseca@nf.sympatico.ca> wrote: From: Alvin Rose <ajroseca@nf.sympatico.ca> Subject: Zenith701801-List: Oil pressure gauge Received: Saturday, April 3, 2010, 4:54 PM I am having a problem with the oil pressure gauge in my 701, The meter jumps from 80 to 40 or back to 60..it is very erratic I have replaced the gauge and sender three times ..but each gives problems after a short time. These gauges are electric. If I replace it with a mechanical gauge it works fine...there are no joins in the connecting wires but I think I will have to replace them. anyone have any Ideas to cure the problem..The unit I installed recently is Electronic but it gives me the same trouble.=0A=0A=0A _____________ _____________________________________________________=0AYahoo! Les, Thanks for keeping me up to date on Howards fus. I am terribly sorry that he passed. He was a good guy. I am going to call his daughter today to see if she will sell the fus to me. I know he made a lot of changes to the plans that simply make the 701 heavier but I do think he did a good job. However, I wouldn't need those wings that were the Pegastol brand. I have the kit I purchased from Doug at Quality in Cloverdale. Right now I am in Boca Raton Fl until the end of may. Hopefully I can make some kind of reasonable offer to the estate. As you know I offered Howard $6K back in January for the fus and he didn't want to sell it to me because he didn't want to sell the fus separately. I hope you are doing well and enjoying flying. I passed my FAA exam for the Private last week and now am trying to finish my cross countrys before the final check ride. Boy it takes a long time. Hopefully I will have my private ticket by the time I return at the end of May. Take care mister, and thanks again for the update. Darren Stevenson 561-883-6610 Florida house 415-720-5033 cell

Those senders brand ELO gave out early, best use the VDO as replacements. The port they are screwed into is looking straight at the oil pump output, which peaks and pulses sharply at times, as reported by Jabiru in their bulletins and SBs. So if you want to have the sender last longer screw it into the hole below the original location, this one is on the end of the oil gallery that feeds the bearings after the pressure has been slowed down approx. 10 psi by the oil cooler adaptor, the oil cooler, the oil filter. And if your worn out sender has the idiot light connection, leave it there and wire up a light so you have a backup indication. When a sender fails the wire under the wiper breaks at the normal running portion of the gauge, and you get full scale indications while it disconnects.
