John, There was a metal half ring in my parts box that was used to crimp the bungee cord. Tommy Walker in Alabama -------- Tommy Walker N8701 - Anniston, AL Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=311845#311845

I'm starting on a Kitfox SS and reading some the tips, etc. Guess what color Scotch Brite pad they suggest for scuffing up the aluminum? And what color not to use that has aluminum oxide in it.... Whenever this comes up, you guys that have been around for awhile roll your eyes (if you can do that in a forum post). At one time I even looked through the achieves of the old Zenith list to see what the issue was. I really couldn't find much information there. This is one of those things that always gets responses like, "oh-no, not again!" It is always dismissed as out of hand. So for the relatively uninformed like me, could someone paraphrase what the arguments and rationale is toward Scotch Brite? It's not like this discussion is going to overwhelm the current discussions occurring on this forum. Eons ago (March 99), there was a discussion about the composition of scotchbrite, and whether it is advisable to use it on aluminium. If you search the archives ("scotch & brite", not "scotchbrite"), you will find the posts. Have fun... do not archive I recall that this discussion wound up so far off the deep end that a Lister postulated that if a Sasquatch was ever sighted, he would probably be carrying a green Scotchbrite! Do not archive I've been lurking on this list for more years than I care to remember. I'm slooowly making progress on my plans-built 701. I have to say that it is really refreshing that the most heated things that STOL builders discuss are scotchbrite, primer selection, polishing systems and slats versus vortex generators. What a relief!
