The Photo Assembly guide suggests not to drill any holes in the upper engine/cabin frame mount until I have an engine mount. What have others done at this stage, or did all of you have your engine mount already? Because there is only one flute the hole is constantly off center and rotating (moving) around where you originally center drilled it. If the exact hole position is important stop a little short of final dia. and see what you're off by. If its not acceptable, just work one side of the hole with your tool of choice.(vargus Burbit) I have not seen a 2 fluted step drill yet. If I do I'll buy it.......Geoff -------- Dual controls. I bought the mount only from Zenith and fitted it. Over a year later I ordered the Engine from lockwood and the FWF package from Zenith. Its easier to fit it sooner than later...Geoff -------- Dual controls. Dynon 180. Icom 210 Garmin 296. Becker transponder. Sigtronics intercom. Electric flaperons. But, I ALWAYS drill a #20 pilot hole exactly where I want it to be and t hen enlargen it with the step drill. Even doing that it might wander a l ittle so watch it closely. do not archive Ben Haas N801BH www.haaspowerair.com ---------- Original Message ---------- From: "Geoff Heap" Subject: Zenith701801-List: Re: CH 701 Questions t> Watch those step drills guys. I guess I have to pay more attention. I'll see if I can find a couple this weekend. I usually start out with a #1 or #2 center drill...Geoff -------- Dual controls. Dynon 180. Icom 210 Garmin 296. If push comes to shove and you change your mind on the engine later you can swap out the mount then. Having a mount definitely helps keep your momentum up as you're working on the fwd fuselage.
