There are often second hand steel hangars and structures for sale at
comparable prices. Craigs List is a good place to keep an eye on.

Subject: Zenith701801-List: Contributions Down By 17%...
Dear Listers,
As of today, Contributions to the Matronics List Fund Raiser are lagging
behind
last year at this time by roughly 17%. I have a Fund Raiser each year
simply
to cover my operating costs for the Lists. I *do not* accept any
advertising
income to support the Lists and rely solely on the Contributions of members
to
keep the expenses paid.
I run all of my own servers and they are housed here locally, and the
Internet
connection is a commercial-grade, T1 connection with public address space.
I
also maintain a full backup system that does nightly backups of all
List-related
data so that in the event of a server crash or worse, all of the Lists and
the many years of List archive data could be restored onto a new server in a
matter
of hours.
All of this costs a fair amount of money, not to mention a significant
amount of
my personal time. I have a Fund Raiser each year to cover these costs and I
ask that members that feel they receive a benefit from my investments make a
modest Contribution each year to support the continued operation and upgrade
of
these services.
If you enjoy the Lists, please make a Contribution today. I also offer some
incentive
gifts for larger Contribution levels. At the Contribution Web Wite, you
can use a credit card, Paypal, or personal check to show your support for
the
continuation of these services:

Or, drop a personal check in the mail to:

Based on information gained here and more price checking with Shelter Logic,
I've
decided to up the game. I dont trust the Peak structured tents I was looking
at any more. I'm getting a different type thats classed as an Engineered
structure
with a specific use as an aircraft hangar. It's the one shown in Brian
Unruhs 4th picture above. I'm being quoted $6,697 +$300-$400 shipping from
Connecticut.
Size 35 wide X 30 deep X 13. Just passing along what I've found out
and what I've decided. Thanks to the guys that responded HERE with their
input
and experiences. The #2 picture of Brians showing wind damage looks like the
model I was going to get. A $4000 mistake.
No one HERE mentioned security of these structures but if some one
did I would
have to say I'm not concerned about it. If some one wanted to steal my plane
or my stuff then I'm sure they would find a way to get it. Thanks guys.
Especially
Brian and Gordon who provided further info offlineGeoff

Geoff,
Good choice on the hangar, the guy 2 down from me has the same hangar, it
looks brand new been there 5 years and
been through some tough weather. As long as you have a solid foundation an
d keep all the straps tight it will last a very
long time. Have you chosen color? Mine is white and allows alot of sunligh
t in for a bright and airy feel. It collects alot of
dirt on top not on the sides and looks like c**p. The guy 2 down has green
on the outside and its white on the inside.
Its very dark and dreary but it looks like he put it up there yesterday.
If there is grass all around, the dirt and dust should
not be a problem. Spadaro airport is a dust bowl.
Brian

Subject: Zenith701801-List: 701 lexan
From: ruruny@aol.com
I was preflighting my plane for a flight around the Island and noticed a
crack in the lexan
window of my left door. I then noticed the whole bottom of the window was
cracked and
separated. About a month and a half ago I was fueling the left wing with
my large filter
funnel and the tank started to overflow with the funnel half full.
Fuel spilled into the space between the skin and the filler neck and and
ran out the bottom
skin onto the window. I cleaned it up very quick and cleaned the window wi
th Plexus.
Everything looked fine but I guess some fuel was beetween the skin and the
lexan that
sat there. The 93 octane with 10% ethanol must have degraded the lexan and
during
the last flight from wind buffet cracked at the bottom.
I replaced the lexan on the door with thicker stuff and its alot more soli
d feeling almost
like its glass. Its heavier but while doing a runup on the ground, it does
n't flop around
like the stock thin stuff. I plan on doing the right door now, as that one
really makes alot of
noise. I'm alot more careful fueling now also.
Pic attached.

We have to be carefull with the gasoline (car gasoline is what I use) and t
he Lexan.
Some time Ago I had the avionics serviced (some noise in the reception) and
the guy left opened the doors, - in one side the drain had a drip and ma
de a mess in the corner of the side window in a few days... -There was so
me tiny strange material betwen de drain seat probably there since the last
preflight and caused the drip.
Story short changed both windows but was carefull to make in each window a
1" hole carefully centered under each wing tank drain, when the door is ope
ned... -Just in case there is a future drip, the drop will not make any d
amage... --
Gary.
