i find the flaps hard to pull on . so the circuits are done at full throttle.1/2 way through the Base and to slow the plane down i drop power to 3200rpm nose up to almost stall then stick forward/dropping nose while pulling flaps (at the same time) takes all the pressure off the flaps and is easy to engage.. not as erratic as it sounds. i do inform any passengers what is about to happen. you are instantly slowed to glide, make turn to final and steer for numbers. i had rudder problems when i first purchased this plane. found iin some conditions the rudder would search from stop to stop. not a fun ride. found the builder had omitted the bottom rib in the forward part of the rudder. would have to slow plane down and pull hard on the left rudder cable by hand to stop the cycling. installed proper rib section and everything worked as it should. i also loosened the rudder cables a slight bit and installed springs between the rudders peddles and the cables. this made ground maneuvers easier on me and the rudder and made the rudder less stiff in flight. -------- Ross Aalexander: CH701 driver 912ul 490tt Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=333153#333153

If you go to the www.ch701.com site and look for Larry Martin's page you can see where he put built return springs into his rudder pedals. Tommy

I installed an after market flap actuator called the Kube Kontrol. It's a little pricey but one my favorite things on my 701. Very easy to install and can actuate flaps with light finger pressure. I've used it for almost 200 hours. Here a picture of it installed: http://www.flickr.com/photos/22918119@N08/ And here's a link to the brochure: file:///Users/mac/Downloads/Kube%20Kontrol%20for%20the%20STOL%20CH%20701.webarchive On Tue, Mar 8, 2011 at 6:48 AM, dashwood <dashwoodlock@hotmail.com> wrote: > dashwoodlock@hotmail.com> > > i find the flaps hard to pull on . so the circuits are done at full > throttle.1/2 way through the Base and to slow the plane down i drop power to > 3200rpm nose up to almost stall then stick forward/dropping nose while > pulling flaps (at the same time) takes all the pressure off the flaps and is > easy to engage.. not as erratic as it sounds. i do inform any passengers > what is about to happen. you are instantly slowed to glide, make turn to > final and steer for numbers. > i had rudder problems when i first purchased this plane. found iin some > conditions the rudder would search from stop to stop. not a fun ride. found > the builder had omitted the bottom rib in the forward part of the rudder. > would have to slow plane down and pull hard on the left rudder cable by > hand to stop the cycling. > installed proper rib section and everything worked as it should. i also > loosened the rudder cables a slight bit and installed springs between the > rudders peddles and the cables. this made ground maneuvers easier on me and > the rudder and made the rudder less stiff in flight. > > -------- > Ross Aalexander: CH701 driver 912ul 490tt > > > Read this topic online here: > > http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=333151#333151 > >

Michael Heinz (Chris's son and a reseller of the Kube Control) told me that the degree of difficulty on the stock flap actuator was a good thing. If it was hard to put the flaps in you were probably deploying them at too high a speed. He also advised not messing with deploying the flaps during your first 50 hours of flying a 701. On the other hand James's plane is hardly stock ;-) Here is a link to the specs on the Kube Control: http://www.qualitysportplanes.com/components-and-options.html -- Craig From: owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of James Sagerser Sent: Tuesday, March 08, 2011 10:37 AM Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: Re: Phase one testing I installed an after market flap actuator called the Kube Kontrol. Hello Ron, In my humble opinion. I think there is no problem with the flaps of your 701... - I am shure th at you are flying too fast -for the flaps to be set, just let the speed t o bleed to 60 (or 55 in low turbulent wind). I use the flaps because of my strip at 5,000 ft ASL , -but in a "normal" landings there is no need to aply the flaps, - well probably using flaps might save tires and brakes :-) Hope this helps Gary Gower701 912S-Chapala, Mexico.- --- On Tue, 3/8/11, dashwood <dashwoodlock@hotmail.com> wrote: From: dashwood <dashwoodlock@hotmail.com> Subject: Zenith701801-List: Re: Phase one testing om> i find the flaps hard to pull on . so- the circuits are done at full thro ttle.1/2 way through the Base and to slow the plane down i drop power to 32 00rpm nose up to almost stall then stick forward/dropping nose while pullin g flaps (at the same time) takes all the pressure off the flaps and is easy to engage.. not as erratic as it sounds. i do inform any passengers what i s about to happen. you are instantly slowed to glide, make turn to final an d steer for numbers. i had rudder problems when i first purchased this plane. found iin some con ditions the rudder would search from stop to stop. not a fun ride. found th e builder had omitted the bottom rib in the forward part of the rudder. wou ld have to slow plane down and pull hard on the left- rudder cable by han d to stop the cycling.- installed proper rib section and everything worked as it should. i also loo sened the rudder cables a slight bit and installed springs between the rudd ers peddles and the cables. this made ground maneuvers easier on me and the rudder and made the rudder less stiff in flight. -------- Ross Aalexander: CH701 driver 912ul 490tt Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=333151#333151 le, List Admin. =0A=0A=0A
