Subject: | Fuel hose problem |
Yesterday I discovered evidence of ten gallons of gasoline on the floor of my new
hangar. The left wing tank was totally empty.
Seems that the sun, coming through the top window during the 5 years that my 701
was tied up outside, had cooked the fuel hose where it comes out of the wing.
It fractured, and ten gallons of fuel came into the cabin, down the door post,
to the rear of the baggage compartment, and out of the bottom of the fuselage
- destroying paint along the way. Luckily this happened while it was sitting
in the hangar.
The pitot line also came apart in this same area three years ago. Flew around at
ten mph indicated for a while.
THESE HOSES MUST BE PROTECTED FROM THE SUN!!!
The pitot hose was supplied by Zenith in 2004, and the fuel hose was Bing alcohol
resistant fuel line (ACS 05-00500).
I am replacing the fuel line with the same thing, but this time it will be sleeved
or painted.......Fred
