About that time my son joined Boy Scouts and I became involved, with the result that I have been unable to make progress on the kit. For most of this time I have followed the list, but have had no questions, and have had little to contribute. Now, I am now out of that activity and am starting up on the kit. I have just completed the rudder skeleton and am starting on the skins. I was pretty dismayed when I unwrapped the trailing skin and found two wrinkles, one with a crack, which I am pretty sure happened when I was transporting the skin from my place in the Spokane area to where I am working in Santa Rosa, CA. After looking at the next steps I figured out that one of the wrinkles was about midway between ribs 3 and 4, and would be at a good place to install the tail light. The other wrinkle, the one with the crack is in a less convenient location. It is about 7mm up from where the trailing edge lower corner should be, or 112 mm up from the untrimmed corner of the skin as supplied in the kit. (Small Photo attached) I can think of several options and would like to here what all the voices of experience out there have to say. Then I will contact the folks at Zenith to see about getting whatever is decided approved. Here is what I can think of: 1. Order a new skin. I expect this will cost the most and slow me down the most. I really have no ides what to expect the cost to be but can inquire easily enough. Shipping might cost a bit to prevent a repeat of what I already did. 2. Some sort of patch. I still have the aileron from a Piper Cherokee that I had to replace because it had a patch and the plane would not pass the annual with the patch, so I suppose this idea has little merit. If this option turned out to be OK, I would need some help designing a patch. 3. Round the corner of the skin enough to eliminate the damaged part. I'm not sure how to deal with the folded trailing edge if I select this option. 4. Trim the skin 112 mm (maybe a little more to eliminate the damages part) instead of the standard 105 mm from its untrimmed corner and make the rudder slightly smaller. 5. A little bit of option 3 plus a little bit of option 4. 6. Something that I have not yet thought of that someone smarter than me suggests. I look forward to hearing from other listers. Thanks! This is the first, but you can bet it's not the last part you will have to scrap - and learning how to make your own parts is a valuable skill. Good luck Carlos CH601-HD, plans On 7 August 2011 20:18, Ken Lyons wrote: > Hi All, > > My name is Ken Lyons and I bought a CH701 kit in early 1999.
