Is this possibly an issue with alcohol in the fuel that is deteriorating the black O-rings? About that time my son joined Boy Scouts and I became involve d, with the result that I have been unable to make progress on the kit. I have just completed the rudder skeleton and am starting on the skins. The black ones are probably neoprene which will be degraded by alcohol in the fuel and the blue ones are probably silicone which is impervious to the fuel.
