Make a plug on the end of the exhaust pipe and introduce 20# of compressed
air, should be able to locate it, will have to turn the prop to bring each
cyl to TDC to isolate each exhaust circuit. Remove plug wires

How do you confirm and locate an exhaust leak you suspect is
there only because you hear it.

I would also check your prop closely.

Hello,
I have not been on the list for a few years. I completed my 701 in early 2006.
I am back because this list, at least in those days, had enough expertise to
answer almost anything. Sometimes even with multiple contradictory answers.
So, hoping you experts are still out there: How do you confirm and locate an
exhaust leak you suspect is there only because you hear it. And is that likely
to be my problem. After a grass landing on a moderately rough strip there was
a buzzing, or perhaps rapid light clapping sound, heard when taxing in. It
correlated with RPM. There were no instrument indications, such as egt, of any
engine problem. Is it likely exhaust, or is there something else I should
be thinking about?
thanks for any help,

Larry,
Thanks for the response. I am embarrassed to say it turned out to be neither exhaust
nor valves. The cowl was knocked very slightly askew by the rough grass
field ( not by my landing, of course). When I removed the cowl to look for
problem, the noise went away. And there is not evidence of any other problem.
So I am flying again.
Jim
