The most efficient way to get the shortest takeoff is flaps extended one
notch, stick neutral til approaching minimum liftoff speed, then
smoothly but aggressively rotate to lift off just above(one or two mph)
stall speed...the stick anywhere but neutral during the takeoff roll
does nothing but produce drag and increase the takeoff distance. In
practical application on the 701 this amounts to full power and shortly
thereafter rotate to climb attitude. As to the "clean and jerk"
technique mentioned...a "jerk" would be considered bad form for any
maneuver, even a snap roll. All control movements should be smooth, and
in this case aggressive for the rotation. And to wait til 40 mph to
rotate will lengthen the takeoff roll simply because it's so far above
stall speed. As to the flaps...one notch will shorten the takeoff roll
but reduce the angle of climb, so as soon as you have sufficient
airspeed retract the flaps.
Have fun
Joe

For me it is 1/2 flaps, holding stick back till the nose wheel gets light then
relax the stick and fly off
Ross
This gets me off the ground very quick too. But often have to fly ground effect
till airspeed builds. If engine were to fail in high nose up configuration the
rotation back would be very difficult.

so if you are trying to clear 50ft obstacle as soon as possible . i find it may
be better to start without flaps. no drag to start = faster accel =sooner airspeed
liftoff=faster climb. if short field with obstacles is the problem i find
a rolling start at some other angle including the opposite direction if there
is room to turn. not long as the acceleration is quick but it can add a few
feet.
this method seems to be better than a standing start with brakes applied. I find
you have to put rudder imputes in very soon after nose up and toes on the brakes
hinders this.

Umm, the stock flap lever on my 701 only has two positions - in and out.
Can't do "one notch" or half. The 750 is electric like the 601/650.

That's because I built mine with electric flaps
