Subject: Position of VGs on elevator?
    From: John Marzulli <john.marzulli@gmail.com>
I have test fitted the Zenith sold VGs onto my elevator and after a few hours of landings, I see only a subtle and slight improvement. Given that the directions give no exact position, or even a range, I guessed such that the rear edge of the VGs are 100mm forward of the elevator's spar rivet line. Has anyone found an optimal position, or is the improvement only slight? Thanks, John Marzulli http://MarzulliPhoto.net/ http://701Builder.blogspot.com/

John, I installed the VGs a couple of years ago. I will check later today or tomorrow for the instructions I received. John, you might want to check with Zenith.- It's been a couple of years s ince I installed mine but I seem to remember that there was some kind of gu idance given for the fore and aft location.- It was a measurement from th e spar rivet line if I remember correctly.=0A-=0ADoug MacDonald=0ACH-701 from Scratch=0ANW Ontario, Canada=0A-=0ADo Not Archive=0A=0A=0A__________ ______________________=0AFrom: John Marzulli <john.marzulli@gmail.com>=0ATo : zenith701801-list@matronics.com=0ASent: Sunday, October 16, 2011 2:35:26 PM=0ASubject: Zenith701801-List: Position of VGs on elevator?=0A=0A=0AI hav e test fitted the Zenith sold VGs onto my elevator and after a few hours of landings, I see only a subtle and slight improvement.=0A=0AGiven that the directions give no exact position, or even a range, I guessed such that the rear edge of the VGs are 100mm forward of the elevator's spar rivet line. =0A=0AHas anyone found an optimal position, or is the improvement only slig ht?=0A=0AThanks,=0AJohn Marzulli=0A=0Ahttp://MarzulliPhoto.net/=0Ahttp://70

That would suggest I need to move my VGs 20mm forward from their current installation point... Subject: Streamlined struts on 701
Hi list members. I would like to replace the wing struts with a streamlined lift struts on my Zenith 701. Mostly due to rust forming on the old rounded lift struts due to nick caused be small locks from gravel runways. I stored the plane in a very humid hangar for two winters, which cause the nicks to rust. I received some streamlined lift struts from a friend who had a Savannah (Zenith 701 rip off) and thought that since the streamlined struts have been use on this type of plane for some years without problems, they should be fine for my Zenith. The material looks very sturdy and even more material than the old rounded struts I have on my Zenith 701. I contacted Zenith factory and wanted to order the end material for the struts, i.e. from the Zenith 750, which is now sold with the streamlined struts. Understandably, they do not recommend any other material than sold from their company, and will not sell me the wing strut ends. Can anyone advice on what to do? Should I just order the strut ends from Savannah, or just make them myself from 4130 chromoly steel? I would prefer the ready made end struts from Zenith, but to receive the strut end material, I would need to order the streamline struts from them, which is $1000. The problem is, when I buy something from the USA for $1000, the end price when delivered to my home in Iceland with the shipping cost plus import taxes, the end price has doubled. $ 2000 for some lift struts is a little too steep for me, even though it would be okay in USA, but the price of the Icelandic krona is ridiculously low these days. Just to give you an idea, to fill up my Dodge with gasoline is $170 a tank. I really appreciate your advice. Best regards from expensive Iceland. Johann G.

I've seen a number of people leave off every other VG. That is instead of using a single VG flipped around as the spacer they used three (backwards-forwards-backwards) as the temporary spacers. -- Craig From: owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of John Marzulli Sent: Sunday, October 16, 2011 1:44 PM Subject: Re: Zenith701801-List: Position of VGs on elevator?
