Subject: | Grass\gavel field landing techniques |
Weather permitting I may do testing on TO\landing on our well groomed grass
runway at AWO.
Given the nature of a nosewheel + grass, I want to check to see what
techiques are favored by 701 drivers for grass.
For takeoff my guess is to keep the stick-back from the start like other
grass\nosewheel procedures ( being careful not to over rotate ), but keep
the flaps retracted to reduced pressure on the nosewheel.
For landings it seems that a standard grass field approach with stick
backpressure maintained would also be required, making sure my sink rate is
low ( <100FPS ) and once again avoiding flaps to reduce the pressure on the
nosewheel.
Any pointers specific to the 701?
Thanks,
John Marzulli

Be very careful about having the stick fully back on takeoff. The plane
may jump rapidly off the ground and p-factor/torque will want to rotate
you unless you put in lots of rudder.
