For all of You who are flying, Is there a need for a windshield defroster? If so what are you doing. Thanks, Brad

Never thought of it but after I installed the clear PVC 1/2" sight gauge from Aircraft Spruce one of the pilots suggested a floating ball in the gauge so you could see the level easier. Has anyone done this and what do you use and where do you find such a ball? If anyone is looking for an engine have a spare Lyc 0290-D2, 135 HP with about 100 hours SMOH. Will sell cheap to get it out of my garage. Email me direct for info. Bob

It depends on a lot of circumstances. How tight is your cabin sealed. How cold and damp is it where you intend to fly? How many people giving off hot damp breath? The circumstances go on and on. I used to fly a tight cockpit airplane mainly in WI, MN, and Mi. There is no way you could fly safely there without a defroster! If the windows all fog or freeze up and you don't have IFR training and the proper instruments to fly by you are in trouble. I now fly in the Arizona desert so there is no need for a defroster in my Zenith701. -------- Ron Lee Tucson, Arizona Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=358845#358845

However I followed the plans and 4 years later have had no leaks. As far as the accuracy of the reading, the important reading is valid. When the gauge starts falling close to the empty mark, fill up or become a glider. Dan Wilde

Last Saturday I was up for about 30 minutes and then stopped for lunch. When I got back in the plane the windshield was fogged up. Wiping it down cleared it up and it remained clear for the flight back home. I do not have the cabin heat installed and it was just above freezing.
