I assume you are talking about a sight-gauge where the tube parallels the tank-side
with a top/bottom fitting yes, have seen this used to add clarity obviously
you want a ball large enough that wont fit through the fitting and migrate
to the tank itself
It the simplest of CH701s Ive wondered if the J-3 wing-style float-sight-gauge
might not work the kind that hangs below the wing, not the cowl-tank variety
certainly vulnerable to impact and might add a spot of drag, but doubt if the
drag would be noticed in the 701
