Has anyone put an air vent in the cowl of a 701 for cooling at their feet? I was thinking of just forward of the door down low. What kind of vent?

I was just flying yesterday with the doors on in 90F weather. The bubble doors are hard to seal to wind will just come in. You won't need vents for your feet. Thanks to all so far. Will check the gear attachment. Interesting idea. And redo weight and balance. Further ideas welcome Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=381158#381158

All, Any easy way to prevent the o-ring seal from sliding down the rim while mating the other half of the rim? The directions on page -15- do not exactly work real well. Thanks, Keith

I don't recall the trick I used for the o-ring but it is a bit tricky to do .- I think I worked in a circular pattern slightly tightening up the bolt s and making sure the o-ring did not get pinched as I went (pulled it free) .- My memory is a little sparse on this step though because it was about five years ago.-=0A-=0AOne thing you might want to do after you get the rim halves mated but before inflating the tires-is grease the o-ring.- I and another builder each-had one wheel that would not seal.- Coincid entally both were the nose wheels. -A little white lithium grease spary o n the o-ring of the offending wheel and neither of us have had any more lea ks.=0A-=0ASomething to consider=0A-=0ADoug M=0ACH-701 from scratch=0ANW Ontario, Canada=0A=0AFrom: Keith Ashcraft <ch701builder@yahoo.com>=0ATo: " zenith701801-list@matronics.com" <zenith701801-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Saturday, August 18, 2012 1:36:51 PM=0ASubject: Zenith701801-List: 701 Mou nting Matco Tubless Tires to rims=0A=0A=0A=0AAll,=0AAny easy way to prevent the o-ring seal from sliding down the rim while mating the other half of t he rim? Sam, I installed Van's RV-10 back seat vents on either side of my boot cowl fairly close to where my knees are.- Generally speaking, they were unnec cessary.- The only time I've used them they didn't help much because it w as so hot that no amount of airflow was going to cool me off.- The snap v ents on the bubble doors move lots of air into the cockpit while flying so additional venting is not reallly needed.=0A-=0ADoug M=0ACH-701 from scra tch--=0ANW Ontario, Canada=0A=0AFrom: sam hord <samhord2@gmail.com>=0AT o: zenith list <zenith701801-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Saturday, August 18, 2012 10:27:05 AM=0ASubject: Zenith701801-List: 701 air vent=0A=0A=0AHas anyone put an air vent in the cowl of a 701 for cooling at their feet? Hi Doug,=0AI just found online the directions for the 5" series rims, and.. .. I got it to work. They state roll the o-ring to the bead part of the rim . It stays there enough to get the other rim half bolted. I will go back an put some of the lithium grease on it before I finish everything.=0A=0AAlso , what tire pressure did you start out with?=0A=0AThanks again,=0AKeith=0A* ***********************************************************=0A=0A=0A=0A=0A_ _______________________________=0A From: MacDonald Doug <dougsnash@yahoo.co m>=0ATo: "zenith701801-list@matronics.com" <zenith701801-list@matronics.com > =0ASent: Saturday, August 18, 2012 12:51 PM=0ASubject: Re: Zenith701801-L ist: 701 Mounting Matco Tubless Tires to rims=0A =0A=0AI don't recall the t rick I used for the o-ring but it is a bit tricky to do.- I think I worke d in a circular pattern slightly tightening up the bolts and making sure th e o-ring did not get pinched as I went (pulled it free).- My memory is a little sparse on this step though because it was about five years ago.- =0A-=0AOne thing you might want to do after you get the rim halves mated but before inflating the tires-is grease the o-ring.- I and another bui lder each-had one wheel that would not seal.- Coincidentally both were the nose wheels. -A little white lithium grease spary on the o-ring of th e offending wheel and neither of us have had any more leaks.=0A-=0ASometh ing to consider=0A-=0ADoug M=0ACH-701 from scratch=0ANW Ontario, Canada =0A=0AFrom: Keith Ashcraft <ch701builder@yahoo.com>=0ATo: "zenith701801-lis t@matronics.com" <zenith701801-list@matronics.com> =0ASent: Saturday, Augus t 18, 2012 1:36:51 PM=0ASubject: Zenith701801-List: 701 Mounting Matco Tubl ess Tires to rims=0A=0A=0A=0AAll,=0AAny easy way to prevent the o-ring seal from sliding down the rim while mating the other half of the rim? It doesn't take much pressure to fill these tires, only a couple of psi I th ink. I don't specifically fill them to a pressure now. I usually just fill them enough so they keep their shape. It helps to have two people when doing the o-rings. I'm using the 21" tires at 8PSI which makes them about 19".
