If one decided to use VGS in place of the slats on a 701, where would the datum line be? More importantly how far back from the leading edge of the wing--at what % of cord-- would the CG range start? New to the 701 Frank

Frank, You might try looking through this website. I placed the vg's on my HDS per their measurements and have been very pleased. http://stolspeed.com/slats-v-s-vgs Jerry _____ From: owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com [mailto:owner-zenith701801-list-server@matronics.com] On Behalf Of frank goodnight Sent: Wednesday, January 02, 2013 6:57 AM Subject: Zenith701801-List: CG ? VGs are not a replacement for slats. VGs will make a poorly performing airfoil work better. Find a copy of Abbot and Von Doenhoff (A&VD) and read the chapter on how slotted airfoils work. The slat on the front of the 701 wing are a part of the airfoil. The slot is "carved" through the wing to create doubling of the lift coefficient of the airfoil. When the slats are removed you are entering the area of "experimental airfoils. Listers - before you flame me read the chapter in A&VD.
