Subject: | A List Contribution - It's Your Personal Squelch Button... |
There is an automatic "squelch button" of sorts for the Fund Raiser messages.
Here's how it works... As soon as a List member makes a Contribution through
the Matronics Fund Raiser web site, their email address is automatically added
to this year's Contributor List and they instantly cease to receive further Fund
Raiser messages for the rest of the month! Its just that simple! :-)
I really do appreciate each and every one of your individual Contributions to support
the Lists. It is your support that enables me to upgrade the hardware
and software that are required to run a List Site such as this one. It also goes
to pay for the commercial-grade Internet connection and to pay the huge electric
bill to keep the computer gear running and the air conditioner powered
on. I run all of the Matronics Email List and Forums sites here locally which
allows me to control and monitor every aspect of the system for the utmost in
reliably and performance. Your personal Contribution matters because, when combined
with other Listers such as yourself, it pays the bills to keep this site
up and running. I accept exactly ZERO advertising dollars for the Matronics
Lists sites. I can't stand the pop-up ads and all other commercials that are
so prevalent on the Internet these days and I particularly don't want to have
it on my Email List sites.
If you appreciate the ad-free, grass-roots, down-home feel of the Matronics Email
Lists, please make a Contribution to keep it that way!!

Subject: | Matronics Email Disruption Fixed... |
Dear Listers,
Starting around midnight this morning 11/11/13, the Matronics Barracuda spam filter
that receives all incoming email from the Internet, developed a problem and
started rejecting all incoming
email. I just got off the phone with the Barracuda technical support and we have
resolved the issue as of 10:15am PST.
If you have posted to any of the Lists during this time, you will need to resend
your email to the respective List.
My apologies for the disruption!

Subject: | Fiberglass Wing Tips, don't be afraid |
Hi guys and girls,
Beyond the fact that they don't fit very well, are there any gotcha's with
installing the wing tips, e.g because they don't fit so well getting them
close seems like all that can be done. What about adding glass fibre to get
something to put a rivet into near the leading edge where I don't seem to
shove it in any tighter and still keep the upper and lower edges near the
trailing edge of the nose skin looking good. will minor deviations in
positioning the wing tip affect flying performance or safety. I have tried
searching the matronics archives but not found anything substantive to go
on. Zenith does not show trimming the FRP piece, it just magically appears
on the wing tip in the builders manual. Has zenith published anything to
help with their installation?
Regards,
Perry

Perry, the fiberglass tips on the 701 are at best a pain in the backside.
=C2- =0A=0AFirst=C2-trick=C2-is to realize the top rear=C2-point do
es not line up with the spar tip but ends up 10-15 mm behind=C2-the spar
=C2-(if I recall).=C2-=C2-This sets the correct rotation angle on the
tip.=C2- =C2-Secondly, a little heat from a heat gun will make the tip
pliable enough to tweak it into place.=C2- I had to pinch the angle at t
he top point a bit to get my tips to fit over the spar tip.=0A=0AI'm not su
re if it will help with a 701 but when we were doing Leo's 750 we found the
fiberglass tip fit much better if we allowed the minimum edge distance on
the tip flanges as opposed to trying to fit=C2-the tip tight=C2-against
the spar tip (as in let the fiberglass stick out of the end of the wing an
extra 5mm or so)).=C2- Be carful not to=C2-try to close any gaps betwe
en the skin and fiberglass tip with rivets as this creates an ugly "pop-cap
" effect as the skin unevenly gets pulled towards the fiberglass tip=C2-(
don't ask me how I know this one).=0A=0AThe fiberglass tips are a pain.=C2
- The difficulty in installing them is why Zenith went to the one piece t
ips on the 750.=C2- I wish they'd retrofit the one piece tips for the 701

Hi Doug,
As always thanks for your help. I am not even sure why Zenith did not go
full length w aluminum and make something with a flat back that could be
riveted to the skin, which I considered, but one cannot get .016
aluminum at places like metal supermarket. I think I am close enough
although I don=99t have any meat for rivets on the leading edge.
Going to put on my gloves and fire up the heat gun. As far as the pop
cap effect, I have a nice tight fit between the tip and skin I just need
to get it in tighter on the front.
Thanks again, talk to you soon.
Perry
