| Subject: | Flat tire on landing |
I too had a flat tire on landing. I had just switched from the 800 tires
that came with the kit to 850's. I was landing on a short gravel bar in
"Hells Hole", named by boaters who got in trouble there. I ended up in the
creek because I could not keep the plane straight even with the other wheel
was skidding. The creek was only 1' deep. I had a heck of a time getting
the plane back up on to the gravel bar! I stuffed the tire full of sea
weed but still had lots of trouble (full power,one person pushing and heavy
stuff tied to the other tie down ring. I could not get the plane high
enough to get above high tide. The wheels and breaks got wet that night.
The next day a friend flew in a new tube. In a couple of hours I was back
home. Shortly thereafter I got rid of the tubes with the funky stems that
came out the center and installed regular tubes through a new hole in the
side of the rim. No problems since and that was 5 or 6 years ago.
