A few years back the left door on my 701 blew off. It bulged out when a wind gust
hit me head on as I was climbing out. The door was latched. As someone else
said, the weather stripping on the forward edge was non- existent. I thought
there was an explosion! The door split diagonally and I was able to retain both
halves inside the cabin so the tail feathers weren't injured. I have built a
simple bolt latch the captures the door's leading edge at the vertical portion
of the door frame. I'm confident that it will remain sealed. There is probably
a hundred hours on the redesign.
