My plane seemed to be plowing through the air slightly in cruise with the factory settings and even after I installed streamlined strut covers, I didn't quite have the cruise speed I expected. I added a couple of degrees more droop into the flapperons and picked up about 5 mph in cruise. I suspect the factory rigging might be okay for a lighter 701 but mine is fairly portly at 667 empty so the additional down angle might be needed to counter the additional weight. I have a SPAL linear actuator and programmable controller installed in my plane instead of the factory manual flap handle so I didn't even have to remove the belly pan to tweak the flapperon position. I realize that adding flap to increase speed seems counter intuitive but I know it worked on my plane and other 701 owners also found the same benefits of adding flap. The theory I have heard offered is kind of like getting a boat up on step for the most efficient cruise. My plane now almost looks like its flying downhill in level flight but there is no questions that the slight droop on the flaps is the most efficient position. Hope this information is helpful.
