FAA AWC received 5/28/2015. First Flight 7/26/2015: Purpose to establish reliability
of the engine, flight instruments, performance, rigging, trim, control
effectiveness and determine approach to stall speed.
Reported by test pilot: The engine ran strong throughout first flight. Typical
climb and cruise rpm was 5800 with an indicated speed of 60 mph although some
of the flight was done at 6000. Full power was not used except for lift off.
Flight instruments operated normally. Rigging was normal with the exception
of a very slight tendency to roll left. The pilot, battery and muffler weight
on the left side of the plane likely causing that to happen. Centered electrical
pitch trim required no input. Control input was smooth and control pressures
were balanced. Approach to stall speed was in the low 30's mph. Elevator
authority through landing flair under some power was effective. Total time
in flight about 25 minutes.
Airframe: Phase I 0.5 hr
Engine: (including break-in time) 2.5 hrs
