Subject: Need help & consuling on Rivet puller
When I started building my CH701 about a year ago, I did some searching in the archives and found a bunch of messages about the Harbor Freight (HF) puller spewing oil. When I bought my HF gun I thought I followed the directions. It spewed oil as well. My HF lasted a few hundred rivets before I finally started having troubles. I eventually gave up and threw it away in disgust. I did both wings with the hand puller (I did one wing in one day). John Marzulli brought his ZAC puller by so we could work on his slats. It worked really well so I ordered a new one from ZAC. The one I got looked a lot like the HF version and different than John's. The directions that came with it were a lot clearer and it was evident that just a little oil should be placed in the hole in the bottom of the cylinder. On the HF puller, I was filling the bottom of the cylinder with a few ounces of oil incorrectly. Although my new ZAC puller looks a lot like the HF version, the ZAC version has a lot better construction. I've made my slats and flaperons with it so far without problems. I gouged out my original puller head by mounting a coned shaped stone with an arbor in my drill press. Then I just ground away the tip until it looked like the ones on the ZAC website. Now that I have the official ZAC modified heads, I can see that I was pretty close. You gat get oil for air tools at Home Depot. Curt Plans building CH701.

Also at http://www.ch701.com/ are the cutting layouts for various parts. I found that really useful to minimize waist. Curt

I have a trio EZ autopilot on my 701.. works great as long as you hook it up to a good GPS. My current EFIS (MGL) and radio (XCOM) incorporate many of the functions of these separate pieces (AOA, AP, transponder encoder, intercom). I'll be listing these items on Barnstormers in a few days but figured I'd post the list here. Each of these items is unused, uninstalled and typically in the manufacture's original box with the original manual. I don't know about all of their warrantees but Trio has confirmed that the warrantees on their autopilots start at first use, not time of purchase. Some of this gear was purchased as far back as 2005 but for the most part the design hasn't changed. I and the parts are located in Utah. Prices include shipping via UPS Ground within the US. Photos and more information available on request. Contact me DIRECTLY at craig@craigandjean.com. Don't just reply to this message and clutter up the list. Les, My wording was ambiguous and meant to say, for the longest stretch of glide, to use 40KTs minimum, clean. This was the measured best glide for my airframe. I'm never comfortable using it, because the flare is going to be difficult. For conditions where glide range cannot be reliably estimated - that is most days where wind directions, locations of sink and thermals are not known, better control of the approach is made with 50KTs and with flap down early or not at all, to allow concentration on setting the flare. I wanted to get across the 701 is not like a Cessna (and I owned a straightback 150 for 12 years so know a thing or two about them) with the low inertia there is more room for upset in the approach leading to irrecoverable sink rate on the other hand speed is easily shed at the flare so I rather take the shorter, closer forced landing fast than attempt to stretch a glide that may not be realizable for a more attractive strip. I have done 45KTs flap down and 50Kts both clean and flap down with prop windmilling - The Jabiru prop has not stopped during the six episodes of interrupted fuelflow I have experienced. I have a rev.4 airframe, that is the 1100 lbs weight with 0 and 16 degrees flap settings and a Jabiru 2200 engine empty weight is 590 lbs and CG is 21% MAC and on the rear line 35% MAC at full fuel 85 Ltrs and crew, with about 20 lbs to spare for fwd cabin baggage. yes my PC925 battery is with the engine. -------- Ralph - CH701 / 2200a Read this topic online here: http://forums.matronics.com/viewtopic.php?p=247898#247898

Hi Tommy: I had the Lowrance 2000C in my airplane. It was bright, easy and cheap to update, and was very accurate in the places that I went, within 25 or 30 miles from here. I particularly liked the terrain avoidance feature. We have a mess of big towers all over my immediate area. It had each one pin pointed and showed my relationship, in altitude, to each as they went by. With 5 or 6 1000 footers within 20 miles, it was the one feature that I really liked. I also liked the nearest airport function. One button brings up a list, in closest order, hit another button and go there, hit another button and get the airport diagram and all COM and ATIS frequencies. I know there are probably better ones out there, but K found the 2000C to be very user friendly and it had a great color display. LOL). Does anyone have an opinion about the Lowrance 2000C? Is there anything better out there? I'm about to buy one and seek the advice of builders here. I'm looking for the most bang for the buck. I have the 2000C. It;s OK, but not overly user friendly. If I were getting one now, I'd go with the AV8Tor. A friend has one and works great either in a plane or car. Seems a bit more user fiendly. All of them will get you where you want to go and allof them have tons on information in their databases, which is worth the price alone! ----- Original Message ----- From: "Tommy Walker" <twalker@cableone.net> Sent: Sunday, July 12, 2009 5:32 PM Subject: Zenith701801-List: Best GPS today > <twalker@cableone.net> > > Honest, I'm not trying to star an argument ( I would head over to the 601 > list if I wanted to do that. Thanks for the replies. I am actually looking for something that a non GPS user can learn to use fairly quickly. The buyer for my plane asked me to buy him one. I noticed the 2000C at ACS was $699. My friend Rick Roberts (of CH701-Suzuki fame) has one and likes it. What the buyer needs is something with a large screen that is easy to use. I had an Airmap 300 back in the 90's and it was pretty good. It did lose it's GPS signal on occasions. I read some comments on some of the lists where people said their 2000C lost it's signal.... Just trying to get all the facts before I spend the gentleman's money.
