Subject: | 750 Cruise vs 701 Cruise |
This question is for all you 750-Experts from a 701-Dummy. I was just reading
the article in the new Kitplanes about the CH-750 (nice article). And I had two
questions.
1. The picture on lower left of page 14 shows a BIG tab on the outboard end of
the right Flaperon. What is it? And what does it do? Is this a trim tab? I looked
at every other photo I could find of the CH-750 and I could not find a picture
of the left outboard Flaperon to see if there is a BIG tab on that Flaperon
too. Any help here would be appreciated.
2. After reading the posted specs for the CH-750 in the article and from Zenith,
I have this question. If the CH750 is bigger, longer wing, wider cabin, wider
horizontal stabilizer and elevator, heaver and still has the same 100HP as the
701, how can it have a cruse of 100MPH @ 75% power? The 701 is smaller, lighter
and has the same 100HP and it only has a cruse of 80MPH @ 75% power. Why
the difference?
I know I should ask Zenith this question and maybe they will see this post and
answer it to help us all. But if not I would be interested in what the group might
offer.
Thanks
Rick

When I was at Zenith, Sebastien told me that they improperly installed the
struts on the left side at a slight angle. Since the struts on the 750 are
airfoils, this improper installation necessitated the trim tab on the right
wing balance things out.
Apparently, the streamlined struts contribute quite a bit to an increased
cruise.
Another contributing factor to increased speed would be choice of
propellers.
