air1.jpg A photo of Jim Sury flying his nice looking GN-1 over the Texas countryside.
anti-torque.jpg One method to keep your axle from rotating during braking and it keeps the axle from moving side to side.
Billk.jpg Bill Klosz solos my Piet after literally doing all the spraying of the dope. At 78 years old and being a former B-24 and B-29 pilot, Bill still flies like he's 20 years old. We formed a great friendship at the airport and hope it lasts many more years. (and his wife Helen is a great cook, no matter how picky he is !)
BillRewey.jpg Bill's nice Pietenpol from the Madison, Wisconsin area.
brakes.jpg Home made disc from stainless bolted to inside flange of wheel hub, Comet racing go-kart brakes with cable to actuate heel brake pedals.
BrianFflight.jpg Brian solos my Piet for the first time and did a great job. He's on the insurance. Small price to pay for friends who hangar you and won't let anyone touch the plane without supervision ! This photo was taken by Brian's wife, Bonnie. She liked what open cockpit flying did to his hair without a helmet. Should do that more often, Brian :)
ConcordPiet2.jpg Our first trip to Oshkosh with the Piet in 1998. Parked a few rows over is a faster, nosewheel aircraft :)
Cuy_Smoke.jpg Testing out the smoke system down low and fun. Photo by Karen Cuy.
Donsolo5.jpg Owner of Valley City Airport (and all-round great guy) solos the Piet for the first time. Bob White looks on. Bob had 7 planes at the time including a 1929 Fleet Biplane that is now owned by his son, Danny.
EAAPhoto.jpg This COPYRIGHTED photo was taken by EAA in a photo shoot near New Holstein, Wisconsin in the summer of 1999. For more photos and a great article by Jack Cox on our 70th Anniversary of the design gathering, see the December, 1999 issue of Sport Aviation.
Hoppy.jpg Designer of all those great little pedal planes you see at Oshkosh every year and Army buddy of Don Helmick, Marv Hoppingsworth of Cedar Rapids, Iowa shows off his newest design under our wing at Oshkosh, 1999. http://showcase.netins.net/web/pedalplane/
leadingedge_idea.jpg How I did my leading edge. Worked nice.
Mccorm1.jpg Simon McCormack in his beautiful Piet in Tasmania, Australia. A joiner/cabinet maker by trade, Simon's woodwork (and the rest, for that matter) is first-class.
Mccorm3.jpg Simon's wife Susan (Suze) and children. What a great Christian family they are. We correspond back and forth. Simon even made his own prop and then made me one for my Pedal Piet project that I need to get started on this winter!
MC-Pietair.jpg Taken on my second flight ever from Valley City Airport. Photo by pilot of his Cub, Brian J. Safran who normally flies jets and Fleets, and the Cub if it's up front.
MC-PietpenPnl.jpg A view of the instrument cluster in NX48MC. The face is 1/8" birch and the overlay is 1/4" mahogany plywood. Now I need bi-focals to read the instruments and charts!
Mike_and_Larry_in_Piet_2.jpg Good friend and another all-round wonderful guy, Larry Minch in the front cockpit as he gives me my second flight review in the Piet since 1998. One of the few CFI tailwheel guys around. After 20 years of flying, Larry always teaches me something new when we fly together. I ain't done yet!
newPietSmoke.jpg Larry Minch took this photo of me "dusting for skeeters" during a get-together at Don's. Why the smoke system on a Piet? It's just a fun feature and people seem to love it. I know I do.
Ongear0.jpg The Piet on the gear in my then single car garage.
Osh00.jpg My great brother Larry showed up at EAA 1999 to see the plane on the flightline !!! He even wore his special Piet t-shirt ! He surprised us----flew in commercially that morning. We had a great Chinese dinner at the Republican House in Ripon that evening.
Oshlake.jpg After driving to Oshkosh off-and-on for 20 years, this was the first plane I built and the first time I ever flew into Wittman Field. This view taken on my flightfrom Watertown, Wisconsin to Oshkosh just East of Fondu Lac with Lake Winnebago in the background. What an exciting time.
PietfromCub.jpg Another good one by Brian while flying his Cub along side to an EAA Pancakebreakfast at Freedom Field in Medina, Ohio. He flew with the doors open on the Cub to pay me sympathy for flying open cockpit on such a cold, cold morning!
Pietkair.jpg A very nice (and wealthy) guy at Valparaiso, Indiana insisted that my plane not be outside during a rain delay at this great airport. Wow.....is that jet fuel I smell? The EAA group at Valparaiso hosts a great lunch for those flying thru enroute to Oshkosh. Great prices for food and nice people.
Piettoharlans2.jpg Another pic by the Safran's....this time Bonnie takes a great shot of us flying into Dale and Joyce Harlan's airport in LaGrange Ohio for yet another pancake breakfast. No wonder I'm so fat.
Pietyard.jpg Just after fitting up the wings to measure for lift strut lengths and just to make sure all is well before commencing to cover.
simonbrakes.jpg Simon McCormack's great looking brake setup on his Piet. All custom made----he didn't get these out of a box. He even riveted on his brake linings.
    simontwheel.jpg Simon's tailwheel assy.
Ted.jpg My hero from Naples, Florida. Ted flew his GN-1 all the way to Oshkosh and back and to the UP I think ! My other two heros are Steve Eldredge and Duane Woolsey. They flew in from Utah. Holy Moly !!
Topview.jpg Father's Day, 1997. Rigging in the back yard.
Virl.jpg Another intrepid aviator who's been flying his Corvair Piet to Brodhead and Oshkosh for years is another really neat guy, Virl Deal. Hope I spelled that correctly. Virl flew into EAA 1999 with the group of 17 of us to swelter in the 103 F temps one day. Whew.
wingcar.jpg Where there is a will, there is a way. One wing on it's way to the airport 2 miles away for dope.
