Subject:		Paula's Jet
Description:		Most of you know my wife Paula handles all of the YPA orders for merchandise. The photos I'm posting on the matronics photo share site are of her "jet". The photos are terrific, but there is a short story behind it: In June of 2001, my brother Mark Savarese who is a full bird colonel in the Marine Corp. took command of Marine Air Group 13 in Yuma, AZ. Mark is the senior Harrier pilot in the Marine Corp and commands 4 Harrier squadrons (including the world famous Black Sheep squadron). Anyway, while we were there for the change of command ceremony, Mark offered to take us to see a "new" jet that had just come in from Boeing. Of course, none of the Harriers are new anymore. They are all AV8B day attack aircraft overhauls with all the new upgrades to the AV8B Harrier II Plus. So we drive over to one of the squadron hangers and in this hanger sits a brand spanking new Harrier with only ferry time on it. No Marine has flown the aircraft. So Mark offers Paula the first seat in the aircraft. He turns on the battery, fires up the HUD and Paula is in awe touching and feeling this gorgeous $30M+ jet. She's the first civilian female to have sat in this aircraft. The tail number on this Harrier was 56. So this became Paula's jet. Paula wears her Harrier pin almost every day in honor of the men who serve in our armed forces and especially her brother-in-law. She has followed this jet since that day and had asked Mark for photos of her jet for over a year. Well yesterday, Mark sent the photos I'm posting. These shots were taken while participating in Operation Enduring Freedom in Afghanistan. 56_gointowar.jpg is a shot of #56 taking off with 2 1000lb laser guided bombs made special by the Marines of VMA-311 for the "other guys". 56_takeoff.jpg is a great shot of the aircraft as the nozzles are rotated on takeoff from the USS Peleliu. 56_tanker1.jpg is #56 closest to you awaiting a turn at the tanker.
