Subject: Taps Description: Food for thought, if you're ever tapping holes where the threads need to have maximum strength. The picture, "1st Tap" is the large diameter Chinese junk tap that I felt 'tighten up', and start cutting in existing good threads. I stopped immediately - in less than 1 turn - and checked things out. You can see the micrometer markings clearly. 2nd pic, "Correct Tap," is the tap I borrowed from work, and the difference in diameters is - to me - dramatic. They are both marked "3/8 x 24." I'm very glad I stopped to check, on this critical component. Tomorrow, I'll try to get some pics of the thing in place, and you'll see what I mean. -Lar.
