Subject:   Whirlwind 151-series Propeller Installation
Description:

My production and shipping number just happened to coincide with the availability of the release to customers of the new 151 blade design, so I was excited to find out what it looked like. The Whirlwind website didn't even have a photo, so the first time I got to see it was when we opened the crate. It looks very much like the blade shape of the 151RV prop that Randy Lervold has installed on his RV-8 and may be identical. The company still cautions against installing this prop on an engine with electronic ignition and/or high-compression pistons. This may change with further testing, etc., but for now they include the caution. The manual also warns against continuous operation in the 2050 - 2300 rpm range and between 2600 - 2700 rpm. Takeoffs at 2700 rpm are OK, as long as you pull it back when safely airborne.

The prop and spinner combined weigh 28 lbs. I installed in myself quite easily and all the bolts started with finger pressure only. Bolts are to be torqued to 65 ft/lbs. and safety wired with .032 wire. The finish of the custom paint is excellent and the nickel leading edge insert is really gorgeous. I was very happy with the quality of workmanship and can't wait to get her airborne -- perhaps as early as June.
