Subject: kolb cockpit heater Description: To make my heater I built a bender out of 1 1/2 pipe, the aluminum that I used was intended for a gas tank, so it was easy to form. The pictures are pretty self explanatory. I used a fly cutter to make the ends, cut notches in the tube and bent the tabs to a point where I could rivet the end piece, then riveted the tube to the shroud. I used a push- pull "choke cable" to activate the door. I recommend the extruded hinges for the door. Be sure to file smooth all the edges and drill the corners of any cuts you might make, as there is a lot of vibration with this set up and it will crack the aluminum. The air is forced heat and it blows good enough to keep you toasty. It will cause about a 30 degree increase in your CHT fully closed at full climb. Larry, Oregon
