Subject: Brodhead Beauties Description: Somebody mentioned they wanted to see some cowling shots from Brodhead. I don't know if these are from the right angle for you, but here's a few Piets -- all different, as Piets tend to be.
PICT0003.jpg Pete Smith's Grega. He flew it across Lake Michigan from Lake City, Michigan, at the widest part of the lake. I'd be surprised if he got over 500'. PICT0004.jpg Bernard Pietenpol's last plane. Owned by Bill Knight at Brodhead. Corvair powered. Submitted by Marshall Lumsden, Smithsonian Air & Space magazine. PICT0130.jpg Lowell Frank's Piet with a 90hp Lambert radial. PICT0154.jpg Paul Poulin flew this goose all the way from Beauceville, Quebec. Took him 20 hours at 72 mph air speed. PICT0170.jpg Dick Navritil's wooden fuselage, Harley wheels, 110-hp Rotec radial. Hasn't flown it yet, but it makes the greatest sound when he taxis it around. PICT0176.jpg Poulin's Piet attracted a lot of attention. Beautifully finished. PICT0177.jpg Dennis Hall's Air Scout with Model A. It got sold and then unsold. PICT0179.jpg The Continental eye brows PICT0180.jpg Another Continental. Looks like a metal prop. PICT0181.jpg Don't know the owner of this one. PICT0183.jpg Dale Johnson built this one. Look at his solution for the front cowling. You'll see it's made of two halves of the aluminum cover of an electric frying pan, tied together with a fabricated piece in the middle. PICT0184.jpg Another Model A.
