Subject: Kolb exhaust spring mods Description: Here is my solution to having the exhaust springs break and go back through the prop. 5/16" hardware store bolts. I made up some brackets with holes in them by cutting the ends off some exhaust pipe clamps. Could have made them from scratch, but this was easier. Welded them onto the Y manifold and the curved pipe, and then the tapered cone to the muffler. The bolts go through the brackets, then some flat washers, and then through some stiff little springs. (I had a spare set of clutch basket springs off a Yamaha 175 dirt bike that I sold years ago, used them.) Tighten the nuts down enough to hold every thing still, there are holes drilled in the bolts now to stick cotter pins through to keep the nuts on. So far so good, but now if anything comes off, it will be big, heavy, and exciting!
