I delayed in posting this information as I have been real busy
working on my KIS every single day. After one of the coldest, and
snowiest winters I can ever remember I got the bug for warm weather
and rode down to SNF for a little sunshine, and airplanes. I also
stopped by Galin’s hanger for a close look at his real nice TR-4.
His craft sports a clear coated white pearl finish, leather
upholstery, and an IFR glass panel. We had a small KIS reunion on
Saturday. In the attached photo left to right are: myself, KIS
engineer Mark Kettering, world class Cruiser pilot Galin Hernandez,
and Al Rosa. In the foreground is Mark’s Aeromonetum 1.3 liter
100hp
conversion. Mark also had a 1.5 liter 117hp version.
My latest searches for KIS aircraft turned up a few interesting
finds. Posted on YouTube is a TR-1 Go-Pro cockpit view of a first
flight. I don’t know any details about this aircraft other than
what
is shown. It appears to have a Continental cowling, and I believe the
builders name is Robert Wallach and the airplane is based in
Riverside, CA. I also believe that Robert as not the original kit
owner as he appears to be a bit young. Congratulations Robert on a
job
well done. I posted an invite on his video to come to our forum so we
can get a few more details on this build. I also sent information
about this builder to Rich’s daughter Nancy to see if she could
locate him, she lives 15 minutes from the Riverside airport.

Another search turned up of all things a French KIS, yes that’s
right! The only other information I’ve been able to find is that it
is kit #34. I don’t recall Rich ever mentioning a KIS in France.
This kit may have been sold by UK dealer Brian Davies, and it would
have been delivered in late 1992 or early 1993. Robert R. check out
the intake scoop on this one, I think you may have been on to
something when you were formulating yours. Picture Attached
Another tidbit showed up…You all may remember this guy Barry bought
the Kindig TR-1 from Jerry Conners not too long ago – well I guess
it was more of a project than he wanted to deal with the airplane was
listed at Barnstormers, and eBay, it sold in May, for a ridiculously
low price - I believe it was around $13,000. Barry had the airplane
apart, and was ready to install all new windows. The aircraft has a
new registration number. The ad mentioned that he was going
certified.
I hope the new owner drops by the forum for the wealth of knowledge
that is still here.
Moving on…well KIS fans may recall TR-1 240X, it was for sale
forever, and it was finally bought by Ron Russo. He is located maybe
15 minutes South of Lakeland, FL. A recent search popped up noting
the
airplane was again for sale. I don’t know if that is an old ad or
it
is current. Ron seems to be a pretty well qualified pilot he offers
initial flight testing in a variety of aircraft. Rob has a website
at:
http://ronsflying.com/test-pilot-services.html
Another TR-1 builder showed up on the Pulsar forum a while back. His
name is Dan Ryalls. He was asking about what kind of resin to use as
his had expired, he listed the airplane as a Pulsar Sport 150. You
know, I really do not recognize or except that name, the Pulsar clown
Degani never made any TR-1 kits they only bought back and resold TR-1
kits, and so far I’ve only found one case of a resale. It is
possible there are more resale’s out there but the way I see it is
a
KIS TR-1 is a KIS TR-1, and that is that. I tried to reach out to Dan
but I did not receive any reply which leads me to believe he is an
older original owner, and just not too good at computing.
KIS listers may also recall Jason Hill’s sad report on the demise
of his beautiful Warden KIS TR-1C built by Rich’s employees Chuck
and Steve. I am most certain this ship will take to the air again. It
was bought from the insurance company by Wentwoth Aircraft. Oshkosh,
and SNF attendees should be familiar with this company as they are
always present at these shows peddling there savaged wares. I was
told
the airplane was sold as one complete lot, they did not break it up
and sell it in pieces.
