Note that total advance for the M-14P is specified as 24 degrees using the M9F mag but the Chinese chose to spec only the static starting setting, leaving open the question of how much advance is too much. Some clues are provided in the setting chart for different CD-5 versions where up to 27 degrees is called out. My experience makes me believe that the practical max is 28 degrees.

I have pushed the total advance up to 32 degrees but it seemed only to benefit above 9500 MSL where thinner air, hence the mixture, burns slower.
A final note: use of the CD-5 with the M-14P helps starting and smooth running at lower to mid RPMs but really made no difference for me on the M-14P at 80 percent and above power settings until I installed electronic ignition on the right mag.
