I would be interested in opinions on this product being offered to aircraft builders:

It seems to be a solution looking for a problem. The market is already awash in tried-and-tested fuse blocks that hold anywhere from single to dozens of fuses, making it easy to build buses that don't all have to be mounted in a single location. Eaton/Bussmann or Blue Sea Systems make good quality fuse blocks that don't cost anywhere near $350. Waytek Wire has a good selection.

The Falken BusBox appears to be little more than some fuse sockets and WAGO 2601-series terminal blocks on a circuit board, inside a 3D printed enclosure, with no "brains" (it's not a VP-X competitor). I really don't see $350 worth of value, let alone $450 ("Preorder before May 31st and save $100!").

How is it mounted in the aircraft? There don't appear to be any through-holes in, or mounting flanges on, the enclosure.

There appears to be a two-terminal connector at the back, along with a relay and a single fuse that's not associated with the six front edge terminal blocks. What are those items for?

It provides only a single input to power ALL thirty circuits connected to it. You would struggle to implement the dual-feed or redundancy aspects of Mr. Nuckolls' Z-figures using this device.

I would pass.

Eric

Falken doesn't have any in stock. You will be loaning them money.
It looks like all of the load wires come out of the bottom side which will
take up more panel space. It is way too expensive.
-
The Bussmann fuse block that I purchased gripped the ends of fuses instead of
the sides of fuses like a Sta-Kon terminal would.
The fuses were not gripped tightly. I did not use it in my airplane.

I agree with Joe, The method of attaching the wires is rather new and seems a bit "iffy" to me. Shell looks flimsy and cheap. Way to expensive for what it is. I much prefer these. The box comes with a cover. It uses standard ATO fuses which can be purchased anywhere. The wires go in from the rear, so no unsightly blob of wires showing if you mount it in the cockpit. You can also substitute self resetting circuit breakers for critical circuits, like electric fuel pumps or electronic ignitions.

Summit Racing has 3 pages of better quality ATO fuse blocks, with wiring attaching both from the front or the rear.

If the fuse block is mounted under the instrument panel or on a side panel,
then it won't matter how the wires exit. Fuses do not necessarily have to be
accessible in flight. It is a lot safer to trouble shoot when on the ground. An
airliner crashed if Florida many years ago while the pilots were troubleshooting
an indicator light. Two or more smaller fuse blocks can be wired in parallel
instead of installing one large expensive one. Each electrical load should have its own fuse.
Do NOT put two or more loads on one fuse.

Joe,
My comment about using a fuse block with rear mounted wiring was mainly because in my experience, having the wires all come out the rear makes for a cleaner wiring harness. I've got 3 fuse blocks, one with front attached wires. However, that one is mounted in the rear baggage compartment with the battery, so no issues with possibly snagging a wire with a foot or other object.

Sounds good Charlie. The nice thing about building our own aircraft is that we
can do it the way we want. Many times there is not right or wrong way, just
different ways, a matter of personal preference.

The only email I got on this was from Joe (and even it went to spam). I went online and saw the rest of the responses. Thanks to everyone who responded. In particular, I did not like the idea of using wago connectors and wondered if others felt the same.
