When I was at the last KLZU EAA690 pancake breakfast, another builder
mentioned a tip up canopy latch mod that did not require cutting a slit the
side skin. Read: less wind and cold elbows in the cockpit. Naturally, I
lose his name and number as I near that step. (Are you listening?)

I plan to follow Van's instructions, but I'm curious to hear of mods in this
area. I've seen at least one mention of using a car key latch which sounded
 interesting.

 Thanks!

I have never thought about a cold elbow following Van's instructions,
but I have gotten cold arms from the draft that come from the baggage
area which comes from the tail via the corrugated baggage wall. Never
notice a draft from the slot, it is suppose to be filled with the
handle. At least this is my experience in the last few RV's that I have
built and flown in -25 degrees F wx.

				Don

I am not that individual but I did accomplish the task of canopy latch
system with out cutting those long rectanglar slits. Old Dodge Dakota truck
door parts from the salavage yard provided me the need materials. It didn't
save $$$$$$$$$ or time but I sure like it. Key entry on exterior with the
door handle for opening on the interior and am also Maybe adding a keyless
 entry system.

Yes, I am that guy. Sorry it took me so long to answering this message. I
got the idea from another builder and I do not mind passing it on at all.
Give me a call on my cell 404-432-1245 and I'll give you directions over to
the project and you can see it for yourself; no slot, no cold. It is a
handle from that Harman Rocket kit - did I spell that right? It only cost
about $20 and works GREAT! Why Van doesn't switch, I don't know.
