J. Marvin Stump, FBO operator at Ashe County NC airport (KGEV) was such a
pleasure to meet. He is a WWII vet, radio operator on B17. Gas is $4.00 gal

Dale,
Thanks for the posting.
I spent two nights at "New Philly" (KPHD) due to weather!
Ceilings were low and forward viz was "a little bit" . Also there was some "bad stuff"out there at times.
Was solo and not feeling good and did not trust myself to blast off into it but clearly it seems like it was painless.
Just curious ... how much (and when) did you use the Trio??

Hi James,
I thought about this in advance and decided to turn it on at 200 AGL in the “course” mode. This gave me some time to verify operation before IMC at about 500 AGL and also have some distance from the ground. Used the Trio for 90% of IMC and 98% of the trip. Turned off altitude hold if clouds were bumpy (basic TruTrak). I have visited relatives in this area every summer for 30 years and this was the least sunny week I recall. And you had similar weather the week before! We saved on sun block oil.
