<?xml:namespace prefix="v" /><?xml:namespace prefix="o" /><![endif]--> I've a 912S on a Savannah aircraft with a Microair 760 comm. Comm works static free 5X5 with engine not running. With engine at idle I'd rate it as 2X5 as RPM is increased so does the radio static. The radio has a profesional made harness by a reputable shop. Looking at the electrical diagram in the Installation manual I notice a capacitor with a value of 22000mfd 25volts can anyone tell me if that's a required component or is it an option this part is not installed on my electrical system, Can antone advise, thaks

Install the 22000mfd capacitor. This is to reduce the emf noise caused by the rotating engine that is putting out electrical energy to charge the battery. Your Comm will pick it up as rf energy.

  Hi Malcolm,

Don't fly it until you have this figured out.
You may lose an engine in flight.
It has to be your charging unit out put or the reg/rectifier. My bet it is your reg/rectifier. They go out more often than most charging system parts. It is easy to replace, too. First look carefully at the wires going into the reg/rectifier and see if they look burnt or very dark in color. You can take a volt meter and put this on the terminals to the battery and see what the voltage to the battery is, like you said it should be about 13.8V to 14.2V is normal. This may vary a little, but should be close.

				Hi Roy,

I agree with Hugh, put the capacitor in. MY Kolb had it as do many other planes and it should take care of the static. It will also help protect your electrical system.

				RJ,

The capacitor is mandatory. The engine's charging coils put out AC
current which is "rectified" into positive going half sine-like pulses.
The cap is required to convert the AC into semi-smooth DC for all
your instruments, etc. This is standard power supply design.
