Has anyone had experience using Exxon Elite 20W50 semi-synthetic oil in their Rotax 912ULS. I saw it advertised on the AOPA web page. After the recent derogatory information about Valvoline I'm considering a change.

				Tom,

The oil you referenced is not on Rotax's recommended oil list. See
Rotax Service Instruction SI-18-1997 which is attached. You can get
all Rotax Service Documentation at http://www.rotax-owner.com/

I use Pennzoil Motorcycle Oil which is highly recommended by Rotax in
 this SI.

				Thom,

Don't use this paper and oil one any longer. Manufacturer change their
formulation over time without notice to the consumer. Do to those changing
oil formulations Rotax has advised new oil types. Also I recommend to use
only the website http://www.rotax-aircraft-engines.com as a source for
primary information as this is the only website directly maintained from the
factory and not from it's distribution partners.

The SI-18-1997 service instruction was canceled in 2004. It is superseded by
SI-912-016 or SI914-019 and will be updated when needed. I am sorry to
advise that Pennzoil is no longer on the list.

 Best regards

Don't believe it is an accepatable oil for the 912ULS because of the reduction gear up front. Need to use a motorcycle oil, not aviation oil to lube the gears. [quote][b]
