Where to start on QB fuse?

With the wings essentially done, I started looking at the fuselage sections of the plans. As far as I can tell, everything has been done up through Section 29, and I should start with installing the steps (Section 30). Is that correct, or are there details of the sections 25-29 that are left undone by those talented folks in the Philippines?

(Certainly would be nice if Vans would publish some quickbuild-specific instructions.)

Yes, just like the QB wings there are things undone.
Start by removing all the temporary pop rivets on the floor boards,
remove temporary pop rivets in the forward upper fuselage and get it out
of the way. Remove all the close out panels. Remove the seat cover and
seat floor. Remove the F1043D cover panel in front of the seat. Soon
the quickbuild will look allot less complete. Smile

You will need to remove the landing gear mounts so you can put the cabin
floor in.

There is a nut plate that goes on the F-1040 upper fuse channel that
needs to be installed. Much easier to do before you rivet the F1042E
gusset in place.

Seat back brace needs to be pop riveted in place (remove the temp pop
rivets).

Probably forgot some stuff, but its a start.

I had the opportunity to fly the factory 10 Thursday (w Gus) at SnF--actually at Plant City AP...the step on the right side sure wobbled as a got up and down on it; is that normal?

That can be normal if you are not VERY careful in drilling that bolt hole that holds it.  I recommend using a reamer (undersized if possible), and do it very slowly and carefully.  Our flying -10 has one step that wobbles, but the ones we are working on now are all solid.  That one hole makes all the difference.  While it will probably not shear the bolt, it is still a little bit annoying.  I guess you could also go with an oversized bolt if the hole is a little too big, or go up to the next size.

Patrick,

My steps wobble a little too. The fit isn't super tight,
and depending on how perfectly and proper sized you drill
the holes you may get a little slop. I think as long as
you don't let it get out of hand and oblong the holes
you probably have no worries. If so, you could always
come up with a gap fill material on one half if necessary.

Thanks for the comments on the plane. There are a LOT of
people coming and talking to me about it. Today was my
first day hanging out at the show.
