I've got numbers from about 60% of the Esqual I know of and the total comes to 6258 hrs which is a great number for me. The LAA were looking for at least 2500 hrs.

Very many thanks for everyone's feed back!

No further word about the permit yet however hope to hear soon. It's an unusual situation, it's not an import of a previously approved type and it's not a new build.

Additional restrictions;
MAUW will be restricted a little, two average adults and full fuel (hopefully not too much, was 560kgs)
Max flap travel will be 25 degrees, during the test flight pitch authority is poor at max flap travel (42 degrees). In fact the stick does very little due to elevator blanking by the flap.
Recovering from a gust pitching up the nose is the concern.
My Esqual has the HUGE flaps. Pitch up on a go around on full flap is very strong on the stick.
VNE limited to 150 knots, you don't above that by accident though it's been tested well above that.

During the testing it was clear the bungee actuated trim system made the pitch stability worse. It was never going to be stable without the servo tab.
With just the servo tab (no bungees at all) it still wasn't positively stable but it stabilised in the dive at about 125 knots. 3 degree change on the stabiliser (dropped the front) and it recovers from a pitch down (or up) in one cycle.
The stall strips are off a Technam and work very well, no effect until below 40 knots but then they cause some nice buffet.

I got the kit in 2003 and it's only flown 27 hours, that's spread across three sessions, 2009, 2010 and 2011. The UK CAA limit the flying of foreign kit aircraft in the UK to 28 hours a year and normally that is for holidaying Europeans. Any flying for UK based aircraft on foreign reg must be during a period when progress is being achieved for a UK permit to fly. I am indebted to the NVAV, the Dutch amateur aircraft association for their support. The plane had to fly to be evaluated and all flying to date has been as a Dutch Experimental.

I have to bond the stall strips on (just taped) and figure the flap limit in and permanently fit up the stabilised mounting holes.
Does anyone know if you can limit the servo travel electrically? By opening it up and tweaking a limit switch?
Thanks again, Regards, Clive..........Smile)

Subject: Progress on UK Esqual permit...Esqual hours flown needed please.

Hi, apologies to Lightning folk I need to borrow the list for an Esqual request.
I need to collect an updated total of the hours flow by Esqual's around the world.

I flew my Esqual to the LAA headquarters in Southern England on Monday.
The Chief engineer flew the plane to see if I had corrected the areas he felt needed improvement and the good news is he was happy with the way the aircraft flew.

There are pitch stability issues with some Esquals and also he wasn't happy with the lack of stall warning from the aircraft.

I fitted a aero trim system ala Lightning to get rid of the bungees, adjusted the tail plane incidence and fitted stall strips to the wings (thanks for Arion's tip on the tailplane).

What I need to collate now is an accurate record of hours flown by Esqual's around the world to back up the application for a UK permit.
With a large number of aircraft successfully flying with no structural issues it helps with the type acceptance.

The aircraft is currently on a Dutch Experimental permit but this restricts being able to fly it when I like.

I have contacted many Esqual owners direct though E mail addresses may be out of date or aircraft have maybe changed hands.

Any info on Esquals would be much appreciated and will only be used to share with the LAA engineering to back up my permit application.

Info required:
Airframe serial number
Hours flown
Tail number/ Registration.

Many thanks, Regards, Clive
Esqual LS 3300 in the UK (the only one!).
