An 18 x 20 room should be fine. I'm in an 11 x 15 room that once served as
a beauty shop. Both long walls have bookshelves that are 12 inches deep. So
the actual space is 9 x 15 I use a 4 x 12 work bench. Rudder (built at
shop), elevator, horizontal stablizer, flaps, ailerons were completed and
stored in a small, unused bathroom. Then the wings (without ailerons or
flaps) I put together with clecos, then disassembled, deburred, corrosion
protected, and merely left unassembled -- sort of my own quickbuilt kit.
I've finished the rear fuselage and have been able to rivet floor and sides
separate. Now I'm working on the front part.
As dr steve adams pointed out, it is also an advantage to delay the move to
the hanger as long as possible. I can walk from right into the workroom at
any time and spend a few minutes or hours on the kit without driving
anywhere.
