They aren't cheap. Essex Manufacturing quoted me back in 2007 on the primers. If I was to purchase a minimum of 5-9, they would sell them to us for 920.12 each. Not kidding, I still have the quote tacked to my office wall. It does get better, 10-24 quantity, I can have them built for only 520.75 each.

Garner:
Is this the primer you are talking about?
This primer, originally produced by Kohler, is positively leak-proof. Its exceptional priming ability has made it popular with manufacturers of general aviation aircraft. Has 1/8" internal pipe thread inlet and outlet ports. Overall length 3-78". Wt. 2.3 oz. New manufacture. Model K2404-1/8.
**2 O-Rings required 05-02174**
ACS price: $249
And this is an ESSEX

It looks pretty close. I think the ones for the AA5 series has a longer throw. My best guess of the rational from Essex would be they don't make enough of the longer throw. I don't know the number off hand, but I think it is K2404-4-2. I once was getting ready to test fly a AA5, and the pre flight went ok until I was getting ready to start the place. I noticed the throw was short like the AA1 series. It worked but was not technically approved.
Since the last quote from Essex, I have encouraged folks to "take care and maintain" their primer. A little cleaning and a couple of 25 cent orings can save a lot down the road.
Back in the days, if a primer was bad, I'd toss it. Now I will save every little part off the bad primer.
