Volato videos/Important KIS history-Pulsar Chapter
Sometime in 2009, Zizo Vilela made a trip to visit Pulsar in El Salvador. He wanted to make a deal with Yaron Degani to sell 4-place Cruiser kits in Brazil. Zizo was unable to work any kind of deal with Degani but he was able to buy one of the last Cruisers molded in the USA by Richard. I am not sure what Degani's business plan was, he did not want to be in the kit business but he sure courted people along the way and he took a bunch of deposits too. The delivery record was spotty at best, and at least one customer paid in full and received nothing (Daniel Ioannidis of Australia).
While Degani's business plan was crumbling he never did fulfilled his obligations to Richard. Degani never fully paid for the KIS designs, nor did he fully compensate Richard while he was working for Degani. Richard was really stuck in El Salvador with no way to get out. Richard made a deal with Zizo to update the Cruiser and start a design he could market. Richard still had no money to get out of El Salvador, so he sold Ying's car to get enough money for airline tickets to make an escape. Richard had made a deal to sell his 2-place since Degani had taken (stole without Rich's consent) the fuel pump off the KIS (IO-240s notorius for fuel pump problems) and put it on the SP100, so he could not fly the TR-1 out. The night before he left El Salvador Richard, and our own Galin Hernnadez (working in country at the time) dragged the airplane to another hanger.
Richard's reward for such a bold move was a lawsuit by Yaron Degani for taking his own airplane the prototype TR-1 N93RT (along with some other trumped up charge that Richard jeopardized Pulsar's free trade status (a crock of bull#!it). Degani thougth somehow it belonged to him since it came down to El Slavador in a container with other Pulsar materials loaded up by the last stateside Pulsar employee Jojo (last name slips my mind).
Yaron Degani also sued Solly Melyon to get him out of the company back in 2005. Richard should have realized this guy was bad news. Degani left a trail of ripped off people. Pulsar even ripped me off for printing too.
Somehow Zizo did take delivery of the Cruiser kit and now it is just about ready to fly. I had previously reported that there was a second Volato 400 about to fly but it is in fact this Cruiser, not a Volato 400.
I also received confirmation from Ralf Twellmann that a Cruiser from Pulsar did make its way to Germany, to Robert van de Sandt. The father and son project is on hold while they are rebuilding a sailplane.
Here are some youtube links to a few cool videos of this roomy version of the KIS Cruiser TR-4:

I thought long and hard about posting this story (more than a year) but I feel it is important for all KIS builders and owners to known what happened with these cool airplane designs. When Richard sold the designs to Pulsar he really thought it was the best thing to do, and he thought the new owners would be able to continue to support the builders and continue to develop the designs. Sadly, that was not the case. Anytime there is information put up on the web in 30 days or less it will be picked up by the popular search engines around the world for all to see. I stand behind this story and welcome any challenge. In the words of Bush'42 bring it on!
Enjoy the Videos.

Hello Mark, I thank you for posting the below copied email and for keeping
the KIS legacy and flame alive. I read your email with a great deal of both
pride and sadness. Pride because I had made some small contribution to the
KIS story and sadness that the true potential of Rich's dream was not
achieved.
My wish is that all members of the KIS family can take some comfort from the
fact that they were and are a part of innovative individual pioneering
aviation history and that for many, many years -- as long as there is still
a single KIS airplane flying somewhere in the world -- we remain a living
part of that history.

Mark,
Thank you for sharing some of the details of what happen with Rich and the KIS aircraft. It is really sad that this great design had been denied the success that it deserves. Is there any hope that it can be brought back and revived?
Thanks again for you continuing support of the builders,
Bob Reed

OC, Robert, and Tim,
Thank you for those kind words. My post was the short version of events. I thought it important to know how the Volato 400 came about and not just post the cool video links. Both myself, and the rest of my family are very proud of what Richard accomplished but we too were disappointed with the out come of KIS in 2000, and again in 2007 to learn that even with Richard joining with Pulsar Aircraft Corporation in 2005, nothing was going to change the course Pulsar was on.
KIS builders and owners continue to develop these great designs though KIS was never alone (like Bede 5 builders). For years Vance was answering questions and giving advice until he passed away. Richard, who was really not much of a fan of this forum in the beginning, warmed up to it and provided much information until he passed away. We still have two of the best engineers in the business, Mark K, and Scott. I can not wait to see what they do with the 540 “Carbon Cruiser” - this is going to be great!
I try to continue this legacy Rich left. I never though we would be able to locate as much of the fleet as we have (now at almost 130 names), but we are still finding airplanes to add to the builders and owners list (2 names added last week). I have sent out a few letters to try and establish contact with those who are not computer literate. I am considering a snail mail newsletter for these builders and owners. I am now not only related by name, I am the owner of Ken McCormick’s TR-1C. That means the next time a door flies off or a wing gets “pranged” there will be parts on the horizon. I hope I too can contribute to the project in some small way.
OC – your contribution has been anything but small. Your posts combined are the most comprehensive collection of KIS information from any builder we have. Your knowledge of building techniques, the IO-240, and how to fly the TR-1, is incredible.
Robert – you maintained your website through thick and thin and allowed all KIS builders to contribute to it making KIS a better project. On behalf of all KIS builders and owners I can’t thank you enough.
Another thanks should go out to Bill Shertz, what foresight you had in starting this forum allowing all KIS builders and owners to communicate, another great resource KIS had and still does.

PS: HELP - we need a buyer for George Conway’s TR-1 in sunny southern California, USA $10,000US or best offer. Call your friends pass the word.
