Does anyone know how many turns the air screw is set to? I have mine at 1.5 turns but I saw a manual that stated 3 turns.

Also, what other blocked orifices might cause a rough idle? I usually poke out the pilot jet which sometimes gets gunked by mogas but that didn't do it. Short of a carb soaking and rebuild, any other quick fixes? It starts right up, idles reliably but a bit rough, and runs smooth above 3000 rpm.

How many Stratus guys still flying here?

Thanks,
Gary

Gary,

My first question to you is are you sure your carbs are balanced? If they are not, that can cause it to not run smoothly.

I just talked to Mykal - nice that he answers the phone and went on for a while about details of tuning.

Yes, I've balanced them and didn't touch anything since.  I'm sure it's buildup as a result of letting it sit with mogas. I'm trying to avoid a complete carb rebuild again (which has always worked well). I've got some things to try to smooth it out.

Thanks for the reminder to balance - I've used the steam gauge type, digital Rotax type, and he uses a ball float type that fits over the carb intake instead of tapping into the manifold balance tube. I may try to find one of those. I will clean the idle screw tip and tweak some adjustments.

Gary

Wow, great to hear Jim. I bought mine in 2000, started flying in 2003 and have not had any major problems. I haven't been flying much the past few years but it's a great engine package.
