Non-Kolb - Do Not Archive
A bunch of us Old Coots and a few young ones had Thanksgiving lunch today at the
FAA facility I retired from, discussion came up about today's flight plan delays
- seems that recently the FAA was told to quit using the flight plan format
that had been used ever since at least back in the 70's, and start using the
same format the rest of the world uses. Which the controllers said was WAAYYY
more cumbersome, especially if you have to do it manually.
Your tax dollars at work... How about when the rest of the world gets as many airplanes
as we have in Florida, then we think about doing it their way? - and
then say no. Until then, either let them do it our way, or tell the doofuses in
Washington to quit meddling!
They have done this before - remember when WX obs were easy to understand? But
nooo - we had to give up a simple system so we could have METAR's like the rest
of the world does it.
Once again, IMO when the rest of the world gets as many airplanes as Southern California,
then we'll think about it. Then say no. Aarrrr...
Rant is over, will go crawl back into the curmudgeon cave...
