That's an idea of course, but I can buy the converter new for $185.00 and I
doubt I will get what the radio is worth, it's a MK-12D, on ebay ...

the reason I posted is because these converters are around, it's easy to
find the 28's to 12's - more difficult to find the 12's to 28's
