Last July I prepared my RV-10 for landing on a grass strip and wanted to sh
are an item I believed to be helpful.
-
I have 325 hrs on the aircraft and decided to check the nose strut for prop
er adjustment. With a caliper and using one of the previously discussed tec
hniques for lifting-the nose I measured the length of the compression str
ucture (mooney pucks) with the nose loaded and unloaded. It was quite easy
and showed that there was .200 inches of slop. I shimmed out .190 leaving .
010" to install the cap and bolt.
-
This raised the tip of my prop over 2" providing what is probably the desig
n ground clearance. The plane looks perfectly level.
-
Its just something to address once in a while and could also be valuable fo
r a hard landing on any surface.
