| Description: | Pietenpol Photos from Brodhead 2006 Fly-In Here are a few pics from the 2006 Brodhead fly-in. As mentioned in an earlier post I was fortunate to get a ride in Ken Perkins' gorgeous Model A Ford powered Piet on Saturday morning. The flight was even better than the many times I have daydreamed about flying a Piet and behind a Model A Ford. As those who were there will attest, I am a rather "sturdy" built guy but nevertheless had no real trouble getting into the front cockpit -- you just need to go slow and make well-planned, deliberate movements. Hopefully nobody has a pic with my head hanging out the right side and my big butt hanging out the left side. We had a light fuel load and despite my 250 lbs "and a little more" the little Model A seemed to haul us up, up and away with no muss or fuss. Temps were mid 70s to maybe 80 degrees with a light quartering wind. Had the temps been in the 90s I imagine performance would have been a little different...but as I say, it was no problem for "Perk's Piet" on that day. And what a blast it was. I was so excited that at one point I looked down and saw this airfield with all kinds of neat old airplanes and wondered where we were and then realized it was where we had just taken off from a few minutes earlier! Needless to say, these pics are going on the wall of my basement workshop to serve as inspiration to keep me forging ahead until one day I can fly my own Piet to Brodhead -- and give some rides myself! Many thanks again to Ken Perkins and his pilot friend that flew me -- dang if I can remember his name this morning. He knows who he is! Enjoy the pics! | ||
